Q5 Peace
Ive got 18/30 for this...

“Peace is with you,” that is what I hear every Sunday when I go to the church.

I always pray for everyone to be happy and healthy, but to achieve all that, you would need peace. Without peace, people start to fight and get really unhappy with one another. And through fighting, people get hurt, week and sick that bring more misery to their lives.

It was World War two. people were panicking about their homes and food sources when war broke out. People were tortured and many lives were lost in battle. My grand mother said that the best thing that they could eat was sweet potato porridge. It was fortunate for them to have food at home. People lived in fear for the Japanese when they invaded Singapore, you could just get beaten when you did not bow to any patrolling Japanese. The worst was that if you are a Chinese, there would be a high possibility that you would be accused as a suspect to help China in the war and go against Japan.

What happened to the suspects? They were all tortured or shot. Japanese soldiers would pump a lot of water into the innocent people’s body and the water would leak out through the years, nose, mouth or even eyes. There was no peace among countries, nothing but worries. The Japanese were worried that suspects might go against them so they make strict rules for people to follow. Singaporeans were worried that anytime they might just get caught and tortured by Japanese without a reason.

It was for a bomb in Tokyo that made the Japanese surrender, but that bomb did not totally give peace in people’s life. The Japanese were suffering with weird illness, babies born with funny body shapes.

What would happen if everything, every conflict had not started? Wouldn’t there just be a peaceful environment? Singaporeans would not get tortured and Japanese babies would not grow up with weird body shapes. People would not be living in fear and hatred if they trusted each other or agree on each other’s idea, everything would not happen.

I looked back to the present. We are safe in Singapore, there are no wars happening around us, but we should not be so happy yet. People in other countries are experiencing other problems and they might need our help. If we think about others more for a while and help as much as we can, peace and happiness could be created just like that.

“And also with you,” The community would reply to the priest.
“Let’s give each other a sign of peace.”
